Although he was rich, for you he became poor.

So through his poverty, you could become rich

  1. Have you ever been in a position somewhat like the Macedonians, a time of severe trial or extreme poverty? How did that impact your attitude about giving?
  2. How is it possible to overflow with joy and rich generosity in the midst of severe trial and extreme poverty?
  3. How would you describe the features of the Macedonian model in your own words (verses 3-5)? What principles for our own giving can you glean from their model?
  4. What does Paul tell Titus and the Corinthians to do in verses 6-7? What might it look like to “excel” or “overflow” in the grace of giving?
  5. How would you describe Jesus’ model in your own words: How was he rich? How did he become poor? How can we become rich through his poverty (verse 9)?
  6. What challenge does Paul give the Corinthians based on the models of the Macedonians and Jesus (verses 10-15)?
  7. How do you need to “finish the work” in your own grace-giving? How has God spoken to you in this passage?
