Experience God’s Gifts to Us: Adoption, Dec. 2-8

Message Outline

How do we get this gift of adoption?

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. –  John 1:12–13; 12:36; Galatians 3:26; 4:3–7

What’s so great about this gift of adoption?

A loving Father
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” – Romans 8:14-16; Galatians 4:6–7
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! – 1 John 3:1

A forever family
Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
Hebrews 2:11; Ephesians 2:19; 1 Timothy 3:15; 5:1-2

A rich inheritance
Now if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:17, 23
… and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. – Colossians 1:12

“Jesus came at Christmas to pay for our adoption,
so we could join his family.”
