Group Discussion Questions

  1. How can one degree of change make a huge difference? What are some examples from different areas of life?
  2. How does our mission at creation (Genesis 1:28) connect with Jesus’ great commission
  3. (Matthew 28:18-20)?
  4. According to Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20, what does he provide for us to carry out his mission?
  5. What is the clear command of Jesus in the great commission?
  6. Who do you know from other “nations”? List as many different countries or ethnicities as you can that are represented by someone who lives near you or with whom you work?
  7. What one degree of change can you make in your life so you are more aligned with Jesus’ mission for us?
  8. Big God, Big Ask! Who can you pray for and invite to the upcoming series, Big God in a Chaotic World? List out first names and pray for them as a group. The series starts on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, so pray through January and invite.

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9.

  1. Read Genesis 1:26-28 and Matthew 28:16-18 together as a family. What are the similarities in these passages? What is God asking us to do in Genesis? What about in the Matthew passage? What is God’s promise to us in Matthew 28:20? How is this a comfort to you?
  2. What is our (Christian) role in making disciples? Read Mark 4:1-8. How do we “scatter the seed” of the Good News of Jesus Christ?
  3. Activity: with a protractor, draw two lines extending out from the same point that are one degree apart. What do you notice?
  4. What one thing could you change in your life that, if committed to changing, would make a huge difference in your life and in the lives of those God puts in your path? Who can you share this with that will keep you accountable to sticking with your decision to change?
  5. Who in your life needs to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ? What is your next step in helping them find Jesus?
