Group and Family Discussion Questions

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9.

  1. Have you or someone you know ever experienced the failure or defeat of trying to implement a colossal life change of 180 degrees? Can you share your experience? Why are small incremental changes of one degree at a time easier to accomplish?
  2. According to 2 Corinthians 3:18 and 4:6, what is the “same image” that “we all” are being transformed into? What do you think it means to “grow like Christ”?
  3. In the sermon, Jaime mentioned that “Sanctification is the progressive work of God through the Spirit whereby the justified sinner grows more like Christ, as evidenced by a growing knowledge, trust and obedience.” Discuss the different components mentioned in the working definition of sanctification.
  4. Have each person draw the Big X and the four practices on a piece of paper. Explain how each one of the four practices can help you grow in Christ.
  5. What is one degree of change you can implement in each of the four practices? Share your answers.
