Group Discussion Questions

  1. What are some memorial events in your life? Describe how they help you remember the past, celebrate the present, and/or look forward to the future with anticipation?
  2. What’s your first recollection of a meaningful Lord’s Supper? What made it significant? Has the way you view the Lord’s Supper changed since you became a Christian? If so, how?
  3. Explain the symbolism of the Lord’s Supper in your own words? What do we proclaim when we celebrate it? How can a true understanding affect the way we worship God and live our lives?
  4. Reflect on how you usually approach the Lord’s Supper. How do you prepare for it? Is it more than a ritual for you? If it isn’t, how could you make it a more meaningful act of remembrance and worship?
  5. The sermon mentioned six different dimensions of the Lord’s Supper (backward, forward, inward, upward, around, outward). On which of these do you reflect most often? What about least often? Which were new to you? How might you incorporate these into your communion worship?
  6. Consider sharing the Lord’s Supper together right now.
