The Response:  Expect “TBG” to Answer


Group Discussion Questions

  1. Describe your prayer life now. When was it the richest? How does it match Daniel’s? Where do you struggle?
  2. How much of it is driven by: Life circumstance? God’s Word? Daily discipline? Crisis?
  3. What models of prayer have been helpful to you? Are there aspects of Daniel’s prayer you need to adopt? Which one(s)?
  4. How do you avoid prayer becoming rote? How do you keep it fresh and vibrant? Share your experiences of group verses private prayer.
  5. What are your expectations once you’ve prayed? Do you expect God to answer? When? In what ways?
  6. Pray Daniel’s model for the body of Christ, like he prayed for Israel.

5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9.

  1. What makes up a significant portion of Daniel chapter 9? How would you describe Daniel’s emotions as he is praying?
  2. Can you see the template of the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:5-13) wrapped inside Daniel’s prayer (Daniel 9:4-19)? ACTSA – Adoration of the Father; C – Confession of sin; T – Thanksgiving for provision and protection; S – Supplication or presentation of our requests to God.
  3. For what or whom are you desperately praying? How have you seen God answer your prayers?
  4. What encourages you, fascinates or intrigues you about Daniel 9:20-23? What does it tell us about our prayers?
  5. How is your prayer life now? How, when and where do you pray? Do you find yourself praying the same rote prayers? How can you keep your prayer life vibrant and fresh?
