Daniel 9:22-27

Message Outline

The Prelude = Divine prophetic revelation
The Period = Seventy-sevens = 490 years

The People = God’s chosen people, Israel

The Place = Jerusalem, the Holy City

The Purpose = Usher in Millennial Kingdom of God

The Program = The divisions of the Seventy-sevens

The commencement of the clock

The coming of the Christ

7 “Sevens” = 49 years: Jerusalem rebuilt

62 “Sevens” = 434 years: Messiah comes

The Jews used a lunar “360-day calendar,” also called a “prophetic years” calendar.

            • 69 X 7 X 360 = 173,880 days.
            • The difference between 444 B.C. and A.D. 33 then is 476 solar years.
            • 476 X 365.242219879 = 173,855 days.
            • This leaves only 25 days to be accounted for between the 4th decree delivered on March 5, 444 B.C. and A.D. 33.
            • By adding the 25 days to March 5 (of 444 B.C.), one comes to March 30 which was Nisan 10 in A.D. 33. This is the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
            • Jesus’ crucifixion then occurred on Friday of Passover, Nisan 14, A.D. 33, according to our calendar Friday, April 3, A.D. 33.

The crucifixion on the cross

The collapse of the city

“the ruler who will come” = the antichrist.

“the people of the ruler” = the Romans.

“destroy the city and the sanctuary” = Titus, A.D. 70.

The calling of the church

The crushing of the Antichrist

Group Discussion Questions

  1. In the Old Testament, God often spoke through various means including dreams, visions, prophets and angels. Consider Hebrews 1:1-2, 1 Corinthians 2:12-14 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17. How is God communicating to us today?
  2. How seriously does God take sin and rebellion in his people’s lives (Leviticus 26:14-46)? What does Galatians 6:7-8 say about that?
  3. When you hear the terms “prophecy” or “end times,” what comes to mind (movies, books, people, etc.)? How does that influence your view of biblical prophecy?
