Group Discussion Questions

  1. In considering the people you know, what do you guess is their view of angels and demons?
  2. In what ways is life a big battle?
  3. Briefly retell the story of what happens in Daniel chapter 10. Who are each of the characters? What is unclear or confusing to you about the story?
  4. What can we learn about angels and demons from Daniel chapter 10?
  5. Daniel took three weeks to seek spiritual understanding. How could we take time to do the same, even if for not as long? If you have ever done it, how did you do it and what were the benefits?
  6. Daniel humbled himself and fasted. Have you ever fasted and if so what did you do and how did it help you spiritually? In what different kinds of ways could we fast?
  7. The angel told Daniel to carefully consider the words he would tell him. What could we do to more seriously study God’s Word? What new step will you take to study God’s Word? 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9.

  1. How would you describe the events of Daniel chapter 10?
  2. What does it mean to mourn? Have you ever mourned for something or someone? Why was Daniel mourning?
  3. What does it mean to fast from something? Do we always have to fast from food? What other things can we fast from? Why do we fast?
  4. What are your thoughts about angels and demons? How does this passage shape or change those thoughts?
  5. What does God say our posture should be before him (verse 12)? Read Proverbs 1:14 and Philippians 2:8 for further insight.
  6. What encouragement does the messenger give Daniel in verses 18 and 19?  How can these truths encourage you today?
  7. With whom can you share the message of peace and strength that comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ?
