Family Discussion Questions

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

  1. What do you think it means to be righteous? Who is righteous and who isn’t?
  2. Why was Jesus the only acceptable sacrifice for our sins (unrighteousness)?
  3. In your own words describe the story of Noah (Genesis 6-9). Do you see some similarities between Noah and Jesus? What were the people like in Noah’s time? What did God decide to do? What does Jesus do for us?
  4. What is baptism? What does it symbolize? Have you been baptized?
  5. If we have trusted in Jesus to be our Savior and Lord, why don’t we go to heaven right away?
  6. What does 1 Peter 4:5 say will happen to all people who die? Who will be the judge? On what basis will we go to heaven (John 3:16)?
  7. How does the truth of 1 Peter 4:5 and John 3:16 help you through your struggles and disappointments?
  8. Activity: As a reminder of what Jesus does for us, try making Gospel bracelets to reinforce the message of God’s love for us and the extent he went to in bringing us back into a relationship with him. Here’s a resource to help you:
  9. Who can you share the truth of the Gospel with this week?
