Group Discussion Questions

 

  1. How did Peter describe himself (verse 1)? How would you describe yourself in similar categories?
  2. What are Christian leaders to do? How can that apply in your life?
  3. How are Christian leaders to serve (verses 2-3)? Which of these is most convicting to you at this point in your life and why?
  4. What are we all to do in regard to one another and why (verse 4)? What reward do we gain if we do this?
  5. What could it look like in our lives to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand casting our anxieties on him?
  6. Why are we to be alert and sober-minded? What does the devil want to do? How are we to deal with the devil?
  7. What is Peter’s summary encouragement in verse ten? How does that truth encourage you?

 

Family Discussion Questions

 

  1. How does Peter describe himself in 1 Peter 5:1? What is a witness and what do they do? Why can we believe what Peter says about Jesus?
  2. What is a shepherd and what do they do? Who is Peter describing as the chief Shepherd in verse 4? Who are the shepherds in your life? How have they cared for you?
  3. What makes the difference between a good shepherd and a bad one? How does Peter describe the difference in verses 2 and 3?
  4. What are some things you worry about or that scare you? What does Peter tell us to do about those fears in verse 7? Read Philippians 4:6-7. How is this verse like 1 Peter 5:7? What do these verses say about God’s feelings toward us?
  5. Who desperately wants to upset God’s plans for us? How is he described in verse 8? How does Peter tell us to fight back?
  6. In what areas is Satan tempting you to disobey what God tells you to do? How does knowing there are many others facing the same temptations help you resist and stand firm for God?
  7. Memory Verse: 1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”
