Group Discussion Questions

  1. How have you identified with Habakkuk over the course of our study of his book?
  2. What contrasts do you see between 1:1-2 (NET) and 3:1-2 (NET)? How would you describe Habakkuk’s transformation?
  3. For what does Habakkuk ask in 3:1-2 (NET)? How can we make a similar request today in light of Jesus’ coming and return?
  4. As you reflect on God’s coming described in 3:3-15 (NET), what images are most compelling to you? How do you feel as you read through the text?
  5. How does Habakkuk respond in 3:16 (NET)? Why do you think he felt like that?
  6. Read Habakkuk’s final declaration in verses 17-19. How can he rejoice in the face of the realities of verse 17? What does God do for him and for us? How can you move more toward Habakkuk’s faith in the face of your struggles?
  7. How have you progressed in your understanding of God and this life through our study of Habakkuk? What has God taught you? What are you walking away with? 



Family Discussion Questions

  1. Do you have a favorite Superhero? If you could have any Superhero powers what would they be? Why do we like stories of Superheroes?
  2. What is Habakkuk 3:2 (NET) asking of God? What “deeds” (NIV) and “accomplishments” (NET) do you think Habakkuk is referring to?
  3. What are some of your favorite God stories? How has he moved in your life and in the lives of the people you love?
  4. What does Habakkuk say he will do in verse 16? How do the things God has done in the past give you confidence that he will show himself again in this present time and in the future?
  5. What ultimately happened to the people that attacked the Judeans (verse 13)? What are some of your struggles that have shaken your faith in God? How do verses 17-18 give you hope in these trials?
  6. Read verses 18-19 out loud together. Who does Habakkuk say is his strength and what does God enable us to do?
  7. For what things are you relying on God for your source of strength? Hiding the truth and promises of God’s Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11, 105 can help us conquer trials, tribulations and troubles in our lives. Here are some great verses to memorize as a family: Habakkuk 3:18-19 (NET); Philippians 4:13Psalm 23Psalm 46:1
