God is Qadosh/Holy, June 22-28



Holy – Qadosh means set apart

God is holy (Isaiah 6:1-4)

We are not holy, but sinners in need of redemption (Isaiah 6:5)

Jesus is the redeemer who cleanses and makes his people holy (Isaiah 6:6-7)

Jesus sets his people apart to be his devoted servants  (Isaiah 6:8)


Group Discussion Questions

  1. What is holiness? Why is God’s holiness important?
  2. How does hearing about God’s holiness affect you?
  3. How do you respond to the comparison of God’s holiness and our humanity? 
  4. Have you ever felt, like Isaiah, that your life is “undone” before God? How did that impact your relationship with God?
  5. Is Jesus really good news to you? Why or why not?
  6. Is there anything standing in the way of God setting you apart as his devoted servant?


Family Discussion Questions

  1. What comes to mind when you think of the word holy?
  2. How does Isaiah 6:1-8 add to or change your picture of God and his holiness?
  3. What does the word devoted mean? What things can people be devoted to? What are you devoted to?
  4. Read Matthew 6:24. What is God telling us about our devotion? How is this like Exodus 20:4? What are the consequences of devoting ourselves to things that are not of God?
  5. We learned that seeing God as holy also means seeing him as devoted. In what ways is God devoted to us?
  6. Is it possible for us to be holy as God is? How was Jesus devoted to his Father? How does he fit into our ability to be holy (devoted to God)?
  7. In what new or renewed ways can you increase your devotion to God? Spend time in prayer asking God through his spirit to reveal areas in your life that are not holy and seek his practical wisdom in helping you increase your devotion to him.
