Group Discussion Questions

  1. Have you ever felt God leading you in the opposite direction of where you thought you were headed? If so, what was the outcome after you obeyed?
  2. Describe a time or situation when God came to your rescue.
  3. Where do you turn when your back is against the wall?
  4. Have you ever been in a situation where desperation led to bad choices?
  5. Why do you think Nicodemus had a hard time understanding his need for salvation?
  6. Describe your salvation experience or questions you have about salvation.
  7. Take time to reflect, share, remember and rejoice that we serve a God who saves.


Family Discussion Questions

  1. What kinds of people save you?
  2. What Bible heroes/stories can you think of where God has saved his people? What are your favorites and why?
  3. Read Exodus 14 out loud together and retell the story in your own words. What surprises you about the story? What amazes you? What scares you? What gives you hope? What does it tell you about God?
  4. What did God save the Israelites from? What was their reaction to God’s salvation?
  5. Read John 3:16-18. How is the Exodus story similar to the salvation God offers us in Jesus? What does belief in Christ save us from?
  6. Have you accepted the free gift of God’s salvation? Are there people you know who need it?
  7. Once saved, did the Israelites immediately reach the Promised Land? Once saved, do we immediately go to heaven? Why or why not?
  8. What next steps can you take to grow in the likeness of your Savior?
