Group Discussion Questions

  1. What are all the ways we use the word “grace” in common English today?
  2. At this point in your understanding, why is grace an important concept in Christianity?
  3. What was Paul so upset about in Galatians 1:6-10? What do we tend to get upset about in our society today? How would you contrast the importance of those issues to the gospel of Jesus Christ? Why is the gospel so vital to get right?
  4. What is Paul’s story of how he was saved (Galatians 1:11-24)? What is the story of your spiritual journey so far? Have you ever written your story?
  5. Over what issue did Paul oppose Peter to his face (Galatians 2:11-14)? How do people today distort the gospel of grace by adding requirements?
  6. How would you explain the true gospel of grace according to Galatians 2:16?
  7. Have you trusted in Jesus Christ alone to justify you before God?
  8. With whom could you share your story of salvation and the story of the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Family Discussion Questions

  1. What comes to mind when you hear the word “grace”?

  3. Is grace easy to accept? Why or why not?
  4. Read Galatians 1:1-10. What is Paul’s problem with the churches in Galatia? When Paul says they have turned to a different gospel, what do you think he is saying?
  5. How are we like those churches? In what ways do you/we attempt to add to or change the truth of the gospel message? Can you be good enough? Kind enough? Generous enough? Humble enough? Smart enough? Work hard enough? Why or why not (Romans 3:23)?
  6. What does Galatians 2:15-16 say is the basis for our salvation (being made right with God). What does Paul say that our salvation – grace – is not based on?
  7. If there were other ways to be made right with God would Jesus have had to die for us? In what ways can you live out the truth of Galatians 2:20?
