Group Discussion Questions

  1. What new insights are you gaining into grace as we study Galatians?
  2. How have you seen (or personally experienced) the difficulty of a child trying to gain their parent’s acceptance? When a parent shows conditional love, how can that distort a person’s relationship with God the Father?
  3. Why is Paul upset with the Galatians (Gal. 3:1-5)?
  4. As Christians what is our connection to Abraham (3:6-10)?
  5. From what are we free and why (3:10-14)?
  6. By faith in Christ, what is our new relationship to God (3:26-4:7)? What advantages come with that relationship?
  7. How does a person become an adopted child of God?
  8. What does Paul say he desperately wants for the Galatians in 4:20? What could be a next step for you on the path to Christlikeness, so Christ is more formed in you?
  9. What would it look like for us to stand in our freedom for which Christ has set us free (5:1)?

Family Discussion Questions

  1. Can you, parents and students, imagine going back to Kindergarten? What’s appealing? What is wrong about it?
  2. Read Galatians 3:1-9 together. What words stand out to you? What words are new? How does Paul feel and what is he trying to tell the Galatians? How are the Galatians going backwards in their faith?
  3. How is Paul encouraging the Galatians to live (verse 9)? What is faith? What does that look like for you?
  4. On what basis do you know your parents love you? Is there anything you can do to make your parents love you more? What does the word “unconditional” mean? How is God’s love for us unconditional?
  5. What promise does God give to those who accept the unconditional grace offered to those who believe in Jesus (Galatians 4:7)? What is an “heir”? How do we become God’s heirs?
  6. What does God’s grace cost you? What did it cost God?
  7. Do your good works, kind actions or generosity add anything to God’s free gift of eternal life with him? Why are we tempted to think they do? Are good works, kind actions and generosity still important?
  8. How can you show God’s unconditional love to the people he puts in your life? Who are some of those people?
