What’s your NeXt Step to follow Christ?
We all have a NeXt Step we can take towards Christ. If you’re not involved in a group this fall, that’s a great place to start! We have options for every stage of life. Visit the Next Step kiosk or check out available groups and courses in the Groups Guide or online to learn more.

Make Room Project
We’re making room for children, students, adults and the gospel! Please continue to pray how you can be involved. To give, place your gift in the offering bag or give online.

Clothe a Child
Now is the time! Sign up to serve this Saturday, Sept. 27 at Kohl’s McKinney. Help a child pick out their new outfits. Several serve options are available—a few hours of your day well spent!

New Believer’s Class
Sunday, Oct. 12, 10:55-11:40 am for any child who has professed faith in Christ and would like to know what’s next. Join your child for this presentation in Room 131.

Women’s Ministries
Join us for our next Girls Night Out, Sept. 25, 6:30-8:30 pm in Room 107 and hear Abigail Doust share how life changes affect marriage. Bring a dessert to share.

Middle School “Walk”
Our annual Middle School Conference, Walk, is this weekend, Sept. 26-27. You won’t want to miss the awesome fun, worship, teaching and dodge ball! Register to save your spot.

  1. Why is it significant that John’s first command had to do with repentance? How does confession relate to repentance?
  2. John’s baptism of repentance preceded salvation, while Christian baptism follows our decision for salvation. How are they similar and different?
  3. How are some church attenders similar to the Jews who counted on family heritage for salvation?
  4. How would you counsel someone who professes Christ but shows no marks of repentance?
  5. How did the arrival of the Kingdom point to the nearness of both salvation and judgment?
  6. How would you explain to a non-Christian that a “hell-fire and damnation” sermon expresses love?
  7. What does it mean to be baptized with the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:25-27)?
  8. What are the differences between John’s fruit of repentance prior to salvation, and the good fruit of a Christian’s life following the salvation experience?
  9. How are all three members of the Trinity present in Matthew 3:15-17?


Family Discussion Questions

  1. What do you think heaven is like? Is there a place on earth that is like heaven to you?
  2. What do you think John the Baptist is saying in Matthew 3:2 when he says, “the kingdom of heaven is near”? How is the kingdom of heaven near to you?
  3. What was John the Baptist’s job (Matthew 3:3)? How did John go about preparing the way for the Lord? Do you see yourself as a messenger of God? How can you prepare the way for the Lord in the places God sends you?
  4. How did John the Baptist live his life (verses 3-6)? Why do you think he lived that way? Who came to see him and why?
  5. Do you have a favorite fruit? If you bought a fruit tree and it didn’t produce fruit how would you feel? What would you do? What does the phrase “bear fruit” mean? How are you like a fruit tree for Jesus? As a Christian, what fruit should you be producing?
  6. What is repentance and what does it have to do with sin?
  7. What happened when Jesus was baptized (verses 16-17)? What did God say about his Son? Do you long to hear God say that he is pleased with you?
  8. Is there sin you need to confess? Choices you need to repent of? Have you been baptized to show your identity in Christ?
