“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning”

1. Jesus is God John 1:1-2

 

“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

2. Jesus is the Creator John 1:3

 

“In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.”

3. Jesus is the light that brings life John 1:4-5

4. Because of who Jesus is John calls us to embrace him by faith.

 

Group Discussion Questions

  1. If Jesus is truly God that has come to us, what difference does that make in your life?
  2. If Jesus is the creator that recreates all those who come to him by faith, do you need him to recreate you? If so, how?
  3. If Jesus is the spiritual light that dispels darkness and brings eternal life, how has he brought life to you?
  4. Have you embraced Jesus by faith to receive the true Christmas gift of eternal life? If so, when and how did that happen? And what difference has Jesus made in you?

Family Discussion

  1. Have you ever been out in the country away from the city and looked at the night sky? What did you see? What amazes you about it? Activity: This week as a family, go outside and look at the cloudless night sky. Discuss what you see.
  2. Read Genesis 1:1-5. What similarities do you see to John 1:1-5?
  3. Who is “the Word” in John 1:1-5? What are all the things this passage says about Jesus?
  4. Read Colossians 1:16-17. How does this passage add to your understanding of Jesus?
  5. What kind of life do you think verse 4 is talking about (John 3:16)?
  6. Who is “the light” in verse 5? What and who is the darkness?
  7. How did the light come into the world? How do we celebrate that?
  8. Has the light of the world come into your life? How do we accept the gift of Christmas (Romans 10:9-10; John 3:16)?
