  1. What are the most powerful and compelling aspects of Christmas to you?
  2. Re-read John 1:1-18 slowly. How does verse 14 echo back to verses 1-2? How does it build on those opening verses?
  3. What does it mean that the Word has become flesh? How has that truth been misconstrued in various ways? How could it be misconstrued?
  4. How does the Word dwelling among us and showing glory relate to the Old Testament Tabernacle?
  5. What testimony does John give and why? How can we witness about Jesus over Christmas and to whom?
  6. In verses 16-17, what have we received from Jesus? How is Christ’s limitless grace important to you this year?
  7. How does verse 18 echo the opening of the prologue in John 1:1-2? How does John describe Jesus in verse 18?
  8. What are the most powerful and compelling truths about Jesus to you?


Family Discussion

  1. What is the most amazing thing about your body? What are some things you wish your body could do?
  2. What do we learn about Jesus in John 1:14-15? What do you think Jesus was like as a baby? As a boy? As a teenager?
  3. What insight do you get into Christ’s life from Hebrews 5:8? In what ways did he suffer? How do you think he was tempted?
  4. How does verse 16 describe the gift we are offered from Jesus? How would you describe “grace”?
  5. What did Jesus give up to come to earth? Why did he do that (John 3:16)?
  6. What does verse 18 say about Jesus’ purpose for coming to his creation? How has Jesus made God known?
  7. In John 1:14 we learned that Jesus physically came to live with his people on earth. How can Jesus live with you today (John 1:12; 1 Corinthians 6:19)? Have you made the decision to have Jesus make his dwelling in you?
  8. Page 39 in our study guide shows some practical ways your family can keep the presence of Christ more real and imminent in your daily walk with him.
