Group Discussion Questions

Focus on the questions that are most relevant to your group and skim or skip those that are not at this time.

  1. What obstacles block you from more fully trusting in Jesus’ power?
  2. Read Matthew 13:53-58. Why do you think people in Jesus’ hometown doubted him (lack of faith)?
  3. What doubts or family opposition have you faced in seeking to trust in Jesus?
  4. Read Matthew 14:1-12 .(For historical background read an article in a Bible dictionary or encyclopedia on Herod Antipas). Why was Herod so mad at John? What drove Herod to have John killed?
  5. How do you struggle with the obstacles of guilt and peer pressure?
  6. Read Matthew 14:13-21. What obstacles were the disciples facing? What did Jesus tell them to do? And what happened?
  7. How do you struggle with the obstacles of material lack and exhaustion?
  8. How could you give your “bread and fish” to Jesus, to then use them in his power to bless many?
