Group Discussion Questions

Focus on the questions that are most relevant to your group and skim or skip those that are not at this time.

  1. To be transformed means to be changed, and transformation takes place all around us all the time. Give examples of transformation of any kind.
  2. According to 2 Corinthians 3:18 and Ephesians 2:10, what is the hope of the Christian gospel? Why is this hope central to us as Christ followers?
  3. According to Christian philosopher Dallas Willard, the widespread failure of Christians not attaining spiritual maturity is due to the fact that they fail to envision what their life in the kingdom of God could be. Why is vision so important in our spiritual formation? What does a vision for spiritual formation look like?
  4. In Galatians 4:19 and Romans 8:2, 12:2, Paul paints a picture of the transformation that takes place in the interior of the believer. Describe the imagery Paul is communicating. Is there one in particular that speaks to you? Why?
  5. Read Romans 6:6 and 1 John 3:1-2. How does knowing who you are in Christ affect your vision for spiritual formation? How does it affect the way you live each day?
  6. Galatians 5:22–23 says the fruit of the Spirit is “love, joy, peace, forbearance (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Which items on the “fruit list” are lacking in your daily life? What does that cost you? How might your life be different if you learned to bear much fruit by inviting the Spirit to produce fruit through you?
  7. Share some examples of good fruits that your life has yielded as a result of staying connected to Jesus. What kind of impact has that fruit had on others?
